Sigourney spikers sweep North Mahaska

NEW SHARON — The Sigourney volleyball team knocked off North Mahaska in three sets (25-14, 25-23, 25-20) Monday in South Iowa Cedar Conference action.

"It was nice to win in three," Savage coach Chris Carter said, "that was one of our goals."

Karah Appleget amassed a team-best 15 kills and Becca Ohland recorded a team-high 28 digs for the Savages.

"Becca Ohland did a very good job on defense as libero," coach Carter said.

Appleget went 18-19 on serves and delivered three aces and Jordan Carter recorded a team-best four blocks. In addition, Sydney Davis had 28 assists and Carter had 19 assists. Coach Carter was happy with the way her team performed in the clutch in games two and three. She said at one point the Savages trailed 23-22 in the second game, but they were able to come back and pick up the win.

"We stayed under control, we kept our composure and we did what we had to do get the win," coach Carter said.

Sigourney (6-6, 4-2) plays BGM Thursday.
