Bulldog spikers go winless at Cedar Rapids Prairie invite

CEDAR RAPIDS — Ottumwa had a rough Saturday at the Cedar Rapids Prairie Invitational Saturday, going 0-5.

The Bulldogs suffered losses to hometown favorite Cedar Rapids Prairie (21-7, 21-10), Cedar Rapids Washington (23-21, 22-20), South Tama (23-21, 21-16), Clear Creek-Amana (21-15, 21-19) and Mediapolis (21-15, 21-19).

"We played some close games, we just didn't finish what we needed to finish," Ottumwa volleyball coach Jessica Carson said. "It was a disappointing weekend because I felt we could have gotten a lot more victories than what we got."

Ellie Hammack garnered a team-best 31 digs and Chloe Davis compiled a team-high 26 assists. Megan Black had a team-best 15 kills, eight blocks and was a perfect 21-21 on serves.

The Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union has revealed who the Bulldogs will play in Class 5, regional play. Ottumwa will kick off postseason play at Des Moines Roosevelt on Oct. 28. If the Bulldogs prevail over the Roughriders, they will compete against West Des Moines Valley on the road Oct. 31. If Ottumwa knocks off the Tigers, it will play the winner of a match between Johnston and Des Moines Lincoln on Nov. 5 at Des Moines Lincoln.

The Bulldogs (6-17) play at Des Moines East Tuesday.
