BURLINGTON — The foursome of Adam Mueller, Grant Gullion, Michael Entyre and Riley Hammel continued to swim impressively as a unit for the Ottumwa boys swimming team. The group was again the highlight of the day for the Bulldogs at the Burlington Greyhound Invitational on Saturday.

Mueller, Gullion, Etnyre and Hammel had one of the Bulldogs’ two top-ten finishes, scoring the most points in one event with a 24-point seventh-place finish in the 200 free relay. Coming off wins at last weekend’s Des Moines Hoover Invitational and Thursday’s CIML Metro dual at Indianola, the relay team finished with a time of 1:36.57 in a talented field at the 38th Greyhound Invite.

Ottumwa scored 63 points as a team, finishing in 14th place. State championship hopeful Muscatine picked up the title, scoring almost 100 points more then second-place Iowa City West with 331.5.

Gullion had the only top-ten individual swim for the Bulldogs on Saturday. The junior swam to a ninth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 58.95 seconds.

“This meet was a great way for us to get ready for our conference and district meets,” Ottumwa head boys swimming coach Heidi Owens said. “We swam against 14 teams with lots of competition. The boys continue to improve their times.”

The Bulldog swimmers will be right back in the pool today. Ottumwa heads to Des Moines East for a CIML Metro Conference dual that was postponed last month.
