AREA BOYS BASKETBALL ACTION: Seventh-ranked Centerville rolls

CENTERVILLE —  Michael Starcevich scored 23 points and Kolton Gonnerman added 21 — while Payton Busch had a double-double with 13 points and 12 assists to help the seventh-ranked (3A) Centerville boys basketball team to a 87-57 non-conference victory over Moulton-Udell on Tuesday.

Logan Dabney also had a double-double for Centerville (12-1), scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Quentin Fowler led M-U with 17 points, while Kalen Martsching added 14 and Trey Stansberry chipped in with 11 for the Eagles (10-5).

Centerville travels to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Friday while M-U will host Seymour.

Sigourney improves to 13-2

SIGOURNEY — With the score tied 31-31 midway through the third quarter, the Sigourney boys basketball team broke it open, outscoring North Mahaska 29-11 the rest of the way on the way to a 60-42 South Iowa Cedar League win on Tuesday.

Vaclav Bujnoch and Brandon Stuhr each had double-doubles, as Bujnoch scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Stuhr scored 14 points and also cleared 10 boards. Allan Denny added 10 points for the Savages, who are now 13-2 overall, one-half game behind Lynnville-Sully in the SICL race. Sigourney hosts Keota on Friday.

Zach Anderson scored 14 points and Trent Wanders added 12 to lead North Mahaska (7-8), who will travel to HLV on Friday.

Rockets shoot past HLV

EDDYVILLE — Christian Bambrook scored 22 points and hauled in 13 rebounds as the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont boys basketball team took a 68-53 non-conference win over HLV in action on Tuesday.

Jevin Jensen added 14 points and Trevor Leffler scored 13 for the Rockets, while Trevor Swartz scored eight points and dished 10 assists.

E-B-F (8-9) returns to South Central Conference play on Friday, when the Rockets host league leader Centerville.
