Time and Place: Ottumwa girls vs. Indianola at 6:15 p.m tonight at Evans Middle School. The Ottumwa boys vs. Indianola at 7:45 p.m. tonight at Evans Middle School. KBIZ radio (1240 AM) will broadcast both games starting at 6 p.m.

Records: The Ottumwa girls are 3-12, 2-5 in CIML Metro Conference play. Third-ranked (4A) Indianola is 11-4 and 6-2 in the CIML Metro. The Ottumwa boys are 1-11, 1-6 in Metro conference play. Indianola is 2-11 and 2-5 in the CIML Metro.

Start Strong: Ottumwa’s 47-27 loss at Indianola earlier this season can be almost entirely attributed to a abysmal start. The Indians started the game on an 18-0 run and the Bulldogs never recovered. If Ottumwa starts strong, the girls will have a good chance of picking up a win.

No Offensive Droughts: The boys have shown they are capable of playing right with high-caliber teams, but their chances at victory have often been derailed by long offensive droughts. To get a victory, the Bulldogs must maintain a high level of play through all four quarters.

Coach Kevin Patterson says: “We have to handle the pressure (of Indianola) from the tip-off.”

Coach Chris Gravett says: “We just needed one bucket to go in (against Des Moines Hoover) and we just couldn’t get one bucket to fall.”
