---- — MUSCATINE – The Indian Hills softball team had to wait longer then anybody to play their first Region XI game of the season. It took a little longer as well for the Warriors to finally finish off their first regional game as well Tuesday in Muscatine.

Finally, after three postponements, the Warriors battled through an 11-inning classic in the opening game of their first regional doubleheader at Muscatine. Kendle Scheiber, who pitched all 11 innings, delivered the winning hit for IHCC with a go-ahead solo home run that gave the Warriors a 3-2 win over the Cardinals at Kent Stein Park.

"We ususally have close ballgames with Muscatine and they ususally go extra innings," Indian Hills head softball coach Jim Overturf said. "Before the games started I made the comment to the umpires that you don't see a lot of close, low-scoring games. By the end of the contest, they told it looked we got what I was looking for."

The victory was the third in a row for IHCC, who scored a walk-off win to cap a two-game sweep over Iowa Central on Monday. There would not be a fourth straight victory as Muscatine kept the Warriors from crossing home plate in game two, scoring a 5-0 win to salvage a regional split.

"Even though we lost that final game, that was probably the most focused we were throughout the entire year," Overturf said. "I think getting that sweep Monday really helped in that regard."

"We did leave a lot of runners on base in that second game. We had a chance to really keep the momentum on our side early in game two and left two runners on in the first. That was really the only thing I think we didn't stay focused on."

Felisha Durflinger joined Schieber in nailing a homer, her team-best ninth, in the opening game to get Indian Hills out to a 1-0 third-inning lead. Durflinger's former Cardinal and current Warrior teammate, Laci Moore, had two of her four hits in the opener including a triple and a run in the eighth inning that breifly gave IHCC a second one-run lead before the Cardinals kept the game going with an extra-inning run of their own.

Indian Hills (13-19, 1-1) was slated to host their second regional doubleheader in as many days today against Iowa Western. Showers drenched southern Iowa throughout the afternoon, postponing the games for a second time.

"The weather did change drastically on us during (the Muscatine) games," Overturf said. "We also drove through a little shower on the way home and the forecast doesn't look good. We'll have to look for what the weather has in store for us and we'll make our plans from there."

IHCC is next set to host Southeastern in their second regional doubleheader Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
