IHCC plans reception for C.J. Bruton July 18

---- — OTTUMWA — Former Indian Hills Community College basketball standout and Athletic Hall of Fame inductee C.J. Bruton will be honored at a special ceremony on Thursday, July 18.

Bruton, a member of the second Hall of Fame class at Indian Hills, was unable to attend the induction ceremony in February as he was playing professionally for the New Zealand Breakers.

Indian Hills is honored to have Bruton return to receive his Hall of Fame award. The special induction ceremony will take place in Warrior Junction in the Advanced Technology Center on the Indian Hills Ottumwa Campus. The event will include a reception from 5-7 p.m., with an induction ceremony honoring Bruton scheduled for 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend the reception and visit with Bruton.

Bruton, the 1997 NJCAA National Tournament MVP, helped lead Indian Hills to their first of three consecutive national championships. During his sophomore year at Indian Hills, Bruton averaged 12.1 points and 5.3 assists per game and holds the single season and career assists records.

He was selected by Vancouver in the 1997 NBA Draft but chose to return to his native Australia to pursue a professional basketball career. Bruton has played on six Australian NBL (National Basketball League) championship teams and represented Australia in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics as well as in the 2006 Commonwealth games. He also helped lead the New Zealand Breakers to their third consecutive NBL Championship this past season, finishing with 16 points in the championship game.
