CHARITON — The Albia girls golf team began their 2013 campaign with a fourth place finish at the Chariton Invitational on Saturday. Seven teams competed, with Grinnell taking first place with an 18 hole score of 373.
The Albia girls finished at 444 behind Grinnell, PCM (400) and Pella (421). Grinnell also had the medalist with Amber Kracht firing an 84. Amanda Hintz of Grinnell was runner-up with an 87.
The Albia squad was led by Emily Scala as she turned in her personal-best 104 for the 18 hole tournament. Cassie Crall shot a solid 108 followed by Maria Maddy with 115. Finishing the Albia group was Lexie Van Polen with 117, Niki Angran with 122 and Anna Riley with 123.
Albia was able to finish just ahead of conference competitors Centerville (451) and Chariton (474); as well as Moravia (551).
Centerville’s low individual score was posted by Maddison Lange at an even 100. Jessica Scott carded 106 for Centerville, while Marissa Hunt shot 108, Leah Scott 137, Bayleigh Johnson 141 and Arissa McGill 147.
For Moravia, Shaye Brewer carded 111, McKenzie Smith 130, Saharra Conkity 151 and Jenna Wilson 159.
Cassie Carpenter led Chariton with a tourney total of 114, while Leah Dow shot 115, Elyssa Black 117, Mikaela Plank 128 and Caroline Hunkele 136.
Camille Henry was Pella’s low score at 96, Cassidy Van Veen was low score for PCM at 98.
Albia hosts its home invitational today, while Centerville host its home invitational on Tuesday.
Osky boys third
WEST DES MOINES — Oskaloosa’s Clay Tucker earned meet medalist honors with a round of 38 as the Oskaloosa boys golf team placed third in triangular action against Norwalk and Knoxville at Willow Creek Golf Course on Friday.
Norwalk took the team title with a round of 161, just one shot better than Knoxville’s 162. Osky carded a team round of 169.
Andrew Brouwer shot 42 for Osky, while Tanner Lanphier carded 44, Andrew Shaffer shot 45, Logan Lunsford shot 48 and Ethan Farner carded 50
