Falcons win three of four

CENTERVILLE — The Indian Hills Falcons bounced back from a Saturday loss to win three of four games this weekend against Marshalltown at Pat Daugherty Field in Centerville.

After a 17-6 win to start the day Saturday, IHCC suffered a 10-6 defeat. The Falcons then took two games in a Sunday doubleheader, 10-0 and 5-2.

The Falcons are now 14-10 overall and 6-2 in region play. Fifth-ranked Iowa Western leads the region with a 7-1 mark, just one game ahead of IHCC. Marshalltown is third at 2-6 and Muscatine is fourth at 1-7.

Indian Hills is scheduled to travel to Iowa Central on Tuesday.

The Falcons had the bats sizzling to start the weekend Saturday, as IHCC posted 17 runs on 15 hits in the 17-6 opening series win.

Jordan Berry and Dario Polanco had three RBI each and Junior Santos added two. Berry doubled for the Falcons and Polanco and Tyler Hermann each hit triples.

Matt Lashlee earned the win on the mound in just over three innings in relief of IHCC starter Derek Kawlewski.

Marshalltown bounced back, however, behind the slugging of Daryl Blaskovich. Blaskovich batted 3-of-5 with a home run, a triple and three RBI as the Falcons dropped the nightcap Saturday, 10-6. Santos had two RBI for the Falcons, as IHCC’s Jose Marin was saddled with the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs on nine hits through four innings of work, fanning seven and walking one.

In the 10-0 win on Sunday, Santos batted 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and four RBI as Jacob Stalzer worked a six-inning shutout for the Falcons. Stalzer scattered six hits while fanning eight batters and walking just one.

Then in the 5-2 win on Sunday, IHCC’s Christian Torres took the win on the mound, working seven innings, allowing two runs on just one hit, fanning eight batters while walking four.

Polanco batted 2-for-3 with with two RBI.
