Warriors sweep Central

DES MOINES – After settling for five consecutive doubleheader splits, the Indian Hills softball team overcame a six-run sixth inning rally by Iowa Central on Monday and a seventh-inning tiebreaking run to score just their second sweep of the season. IHCC scored two runs in the seventh to earn a thrilling 8-7 win after IHCC scored a 10-2 win in five innings to open play against the Tritons at Grand View College.

Freshman Kendle Schieber was right at the center of IHCC's success in both games. The Conception Junction, Missouri native scored her team-best seventh pitching win in the opener, striking out six hitters over five innings of work, while collecting four hits over both games including a four-RBI game two in the nightcap.

The long ball also played a big role in the Warriors success on Monday. Indian Hills hit three home runs in the two games, giving them 22 on the season, with Durflinger hitting her team-high eighth and Kaitlyn Matzen a three-run shot for her seventh in the opener. Kaylyn Decock also hit her first homer of the season in the opener.

The Warriors (12-18) opened regional play Tuesday with a make-up doubleheader at Muscatine and will return home to host Iowa Western in a doubleheader today at Romalynn 'R.L' Hellyer Field for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m., althought showers are expected.
