PCM beats Lady Dees at Albia Invite

ALBIA — The Albia girls golf team settled for a second-place finish in their home invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Dees beat out three other teams at the Albia County Club with a score of 207, but couldn't beat out PCM who took the team title by 13 shots with a winning round of 194.

Cassie Crall and Anna Riley led a balanced attack for the Lady Dees as both finished with rounds of 49, leaving the lead duo for Albia tied with PCM's Maddie Peters in a tie for third overall. The Mustangs' Caddidy Van Veen was the individual meet medalist with a seven-over par round of 46, two shots better then PCM teammate Rachel Phifer.

"It was a step in the right direction after finishing in the 220's for both rounds at Chariton Saturday," Albia head girls golf coach Mike Duea said. "We won't be happy until we are consistently below 200 for nine holes and hopefully that won't be too long from now."

Chariton finished third overall with a team round of 231 led by Leah Dow's round of 51. Oskaloosa shot a 275 round as a team to finish fourth with Kathryn Wilson's 54 round leading the way.

Albia next competes against Moravia at Honey Creek Golf Course on Friday afternoon while Oskaloosa will host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Thursday. Chariton is off until competing in the Winterset Invitational on Saturday.
