CENTERVILLE – First, they lost the home field advantage.
Then, Iowa Central lost any hope of having the advantage on the scoreboard Tuesday at Pat Daugherty Field.
The Indian Hills baseball team took care of that early on in an impressive opening at-bat, scoring a dozen times in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the day. Iowa Central never came close to challenging the rest of the way, making an unexpected trip to Centerville a short trip as IHCC picked up a 15-1 seven-inning victory as the Tritons quickly headed back to Fort Dodge, where rain forced the game originally scheduled to be played at Iowa Central to be moved south on Tuesday morning.
Iowa Central was their own their own worst enemy in the opening enemy, allowing a pair of early runs to score on a wild pitch and an error. The first inning also saw Falcon lead-off hitter Caleb Ratzman hitting a pair of doubles, the second of which drove in two runs, while Dario Polanco drove in three runs on a double and a two-run home run in the first inning alone as Indian Hills sent 15 batters to plate before Iowa Central finally got their defense off the field.
Junior Santos added four hits, finishing a home run shy of the cycle, while Jordan Beery had a triple, three RBI and a three runs scored. The Falcons also earned a pair of individual honors from the ICCAC earlier in the day as Tyler Hermann was named the athlete of the week by the conference after 11-hit week that included hitting his first home run of the season while freshman teammate Christian Torres was also honored as the scholar athlete of the week.
