Osky sets up 3A, District 8 showdown with win at Winterset

---- — WINTERSET — Andrew Landgrebe rushed 30 more times, adding another 198 yards to the top individual rushing yardage total in Class 3A on Friday night. Landgrebe, now at 1,365 total rush yards for the season, also padded his 3A-leading rushing touchdown total to 21 with three more scores as red-hot Oskaloosa set up a showdown on its home turf for the District 8 title with third-ranked Pella next week after outscoring Winterset 56-37.

The victory moved the Indians to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in district play. Osky will put its five-game winning streak on the line next Friday against third-ranked Pella (7-0, 4-0). The Little Dutch beat Norwalk Friday 30-10.

Landgrebe and Osky quarterback Jesse Van Dalen both had touchdown runs in the first quarter to put the Indians ahead 14-0. Riley Coniglio had a team-high 11 tackles and recovered two Winterset fumbles, including one that the junior returned 68 yards for a touchdown to put the Indians up 21-3. The two teams exchanged the next 10 touchdowns over the final three quarters as Winterset (3-4, 2-3) never got closer than 11 points the rest of the contest.

Late drive, late block lifts Tri-County past Grandview-Park Baptist

DES MOINES — Tri-County used a great final drive on offense and a final big-play on defense to earn a thrilling road non-district 8-Man win over Grandview Park Baptist. Nick Watts found Trenton Steinke for the game-winning touchdown pass with 53 seconds left and a blocked field goal on the final play of the game clinched a 16-15 victory.

The Trojans also went to Steinke for the winning two-point conversion. Steinke scored both two-point plays on both of Tri-County’s touchdowns, including the second score that came after a touchdown by Grandview Park Baptist scored go-ahead touchdown with 3:31 to go with put the Trojans in a late 15-8 deficit.

“Tyler Lally came up with a huge block on Grandview’s final field goal attempt to seal that win for us,” Tri-County head coach Scott Edmundson said. “It was an exciting game to win and a confidence builder for us.”

Tri-County (3-5) returns to District 5 play at Meskwaki Settlement School on Friday.

Comets fall to Wapello

WAPELLO — Keegan Lunz rushed for 141 of Wapello’s 305 team rush yards as the Indians scored four rushing touchdowns on the way to a 34-6 Class 1A, District 6 victory over Cardinal on Friday.

Quarterback Brandon Potts led the Comet offense, completing 12 of 20 passes for 162 yards. Potts also found Cole Campbell for a 47-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter to avoid being shut out.

“I thought we competed well and we had some success in the pass game,” Cardinal head coach Adam Hadenfeldt said. “Our guys continue to work hard and we are focused on trying to end the season on a positive note. I was proud of the effort our guys played with throughout the game and I feel like we are making strides as a program.”

Cardinal (1-6, 0-4) is back in district action at home on Friday against Sigourney-Keota at 7 p.m.
