---- — WEST BURLINGTON — The West Burlington baseball team fell to Cardinal 4-2 Thursday in Southeast Iowa Superconference South action.
Conner McElderry supplied the Comets with its power, blasting a home run and driving in two RBI in the game. Dakota Showman got the win on the mound, allowing two runs, both of them earned, while striking out five and walking two. The Falcons threatened to erase the Comets lead on a couple of occasions, but they were unable to get any runs across the plate. West Burlington had the bases loaded in the sixth, but Brandon Eklofe turned a 6-3 double play to get out of the inning. Then, in the seventh, Showman struck out the final two batters with the tying runs on base.
"Good teams find a way to win games," Cardinal coach Tom Hallgren, "and that's exactly what we did tonight. It wasn't exactly pretty, but we found a way to win. Showman pitched a terrific game and we played fantastic defense."
Cardinal (10-4, 7-1) plays Danville today in a SEISC South conference game.
