OSKALOOSA — The Ottumwa girls soccer team is still looking for that all-important first win after it fell to Oskaloosa 2-1 Friday.
Even in defeat, Ottumwa girls soccer coach Brett McKenzie saw his team take some steps in the right direction.
“I think, little by little, we’re getting there,” McKinsey said. “Averi Cash had a very good game in goal. They [Oskaloosa] had some shots and rebounds and we did a good job of preventing the ball from going in the net.”
Kathy Lopez provided the Bulldogs with their only goal, as she booted in a penalty kick to tie the match at one in the first half. The Indians, however reclaimed the lead with 32 seconds left in the first half. The Bulldogs suffered from a deficit of shots, as they only managed to get three shots on
the goal in the contest compared to the Indians’ 32 scoring opportunities.
“I think we just need to work on our passes,” McKinsey said. “We need to work on getting open and being able to put some shots in the goal when we get the chance.”
Ottumwa (0-2) plays at Centerville Tuesday.
