Pioneers third at CR tilt

---- — CEDAR RAPIDS — The Fairfield Maharishi (MSAE) boys tennis team finished third at the Warrior Invitational Tournament in Cedar Rapids Saturday.

Iowa City West, the defending Class 2A state champs, took first at the meet with 184 total games won, followed by Cedar Rapids Washington, with 151. MSAE won 143 games, while Cedar Rapids Kennedy won 105 and Davenport Central 77.

MSAE’s Sam Stickels turned in a strong performance with a second place medal at No. 1 singles. Stickels finished just 5 points behind Karl Wenzel of Iowa City West. MSAE’s Surya Sawhney and Girindra Selleck nearly pulled off an upset at No. 2 doubles finishing just two points behind the Iowa City West duo. MSAE’s Daniel Pirc finished fourth in No. 2 singles while the MSAE No. 1 doubles team of Raffi Gelfand and Solaris Nite finished third.
