Bulldog softball suffers two close losses

DES MOINES — The 10th-ranked Ottumwa Bulldogs softball team lost two heartbreaking games to Des Moines Lincoln Monday in CIML Metro Conference action.

The Bulldogs fell to the Rails 2-1 in top half of a doubleheader that took eight innings to complete and they lost game two 7-6 in a more offensive-minded game.

Megan Robertson had a fabulous game on the mound and in the field in game one. She allowed only one earned run in seven innings of work and she accounted for two of the Bulldogs’ five hits and their only RBI.

“Megan had a good outing,” Ottumwa softball coach Frank Huston said.

In the eighth, Lincoln used three singles to get the winning run across the plate.

Ashlyn Thompson, Madi Wiley and Chloe Davis were the sources of Ottumwa other three hits and Thompson scored Ottumwa only run.

The Rails used 14 hits to eke out a win over the Bulldogs in the game two. Alexis Winn and Megan Robertson each had two hits.

“Although we didn’t control them offensively, we still were in position to win the game,” Huston said.
