Centerville routs Clarke

CLARKE – The Centerville baseball team picked up two emphatic victories Thursday over Clarke in South Central Conference action.

The Big Reds crushed Clarke 12-1 in the top half of the doubleheader in a game that took only five innings to complete, and they pounded the Indians 17-0 in a game that lasted a mere four innings.

Michael Starcevich helped ignite Centerville's offensive attack in game one by going 2-2 with two RBI's and Kolton Gonnerman complemented his teammate's efforts by recording two hits as well. In addition, Payton Kauzlarich doubled and drove in two runs.

Grant Walker was the winning pitcher in the game. He allowed one run in three innings before he was replaced by Michael Firkins, who pitched the rest of the way.

Hunter Cowan blasted a grand slam home run and Treye Reinhart went 3-for-4 for the Big Reds in the nightcap. Grant Walker recorded two hits as well. Payton Kauzlarich picked up the win on the mound.

Centerville (8-5, 4-0) plays Albia today in South Central Conference action.
