Pekin girls thrash Mediapolis

PEKIN — The Pekin softball team left no doubt in its commanding 16-1 victory over Waco Friday in a SEISC North game that only took three innings to reach its conclusion.

The Panthers scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on nine more in the second in a dominating performance. Tiana Slaney spearheaded Pekin’s offense with three hits, a double and a team-high 4 RBI’s. Sloan Reighard also fueled the Panthers offensive barrage by going 2-for-2 with two RBI’s. In addition, Maddy Baker added two hits.

Ashlyn Zook picked up the win on the mound. She allowed no earned runs and struck out three in three innings of work.

“I was really proud of the girls tonight because they stayed focused and played there game,” coach Allison Zook said. “I felt like they were patient up there and got there pitch and got runs instead of leaving them on this time.”

The Panthers cored a decisive 12-2 victory over Mediapolis Thursday in SEISC North action.

Zook once again picked up the win on the hill. She allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out three in five innings. Slaney sparked Ottumwa’s offensive efforts by going 3-for-4 and Baker blasted a triple and drove in three RBI’s. In addition, the Panthers’ Kaylee Linder and Cassidy Tolle drove in two runs each.

“I think the girls really played well tonight,” Glick said.
