OTTUMWA — Ottumwa will put on fast pitch softball tournament decorated with young arms from across the state this weekend.
The tournament is sponsored by the United States Specialty Sports Association and will run from Friday to Sunday at the Greater Ottumwa Park. The tournaments will be split into two age groups: 10 and under and 12 and under. There will be 16 teams featuring 12-and-under players and 13 teams comprised of 10-and-under players, Robert Greiner said.
Greiner, the director of the tournament, said action begins Friday night at 6 p.m. On Saturday, things will start up again at 8 a.m. and last until 10 p.m. Sunday's games will begin at 8 a.m. and last until 5 p.m.
Each game will have a time limit of 1 hour and 10 minutes and a inning limit of seven innings.
This is the fourth time Ottumwa has played host to the tournament.
"We just applied and were lucky enough to get it," Greiner said. "We have a good league here that's sanctioned and a good group of girls."
He said Iowa has probably put on the tournament for 20 years.
