KEOSAUQUA — Emily Parks and Jorgi Krieger each came up with three hits and drove in a run apiece to support Morgan Christner, who pitched third-ranked (1A) New London to a 6-1 Southeast Iowa Superconference south win over Van Buren on Tuesday.
The 22-4 Tigers did not have it easy with the Warriors, which struck for the very first run of the game in the very first inning. Abby Rider started a 2-2 night with an RBI double that brought home Taylor Murguia, giving Alicia Fitzsimmons a 1-0 lead she protected until New London struck for three runs in fifth.
“This is probably the best game we’ve played all year,” Van Buren head softball coach Eric Speer said. “Even the two errors we had were tough plays for us. I’m very proud. If we can play like this, we’ve got a good shot of making a run when the postseason arrives.”
Van Buren (4-16, 3-8) will be back in action at home today against Davis County.
