Rockets outlast Centerville

CENTERVILLE — Haegen Boyer and Paige Shafer combined for six hits to help the fifth-ranked (Class 2A) Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont softball team beat Centerville 3-2 Thursday in South Central Conference action.

Rachel Maloy and Ashley Pilcher helped fuel the Rockets' offense with two hits each. Nataliah Hopkins turned in another solid effort, giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out three.

"It was a well played game by both teams," Tony Fenton said. "We hit the ball hard tonight."

Taylor Jewett spearheaded the Big Reds' offense with two hits and an RBI and Kiley Micetich drove in Centerville's other run.

EBF (21-4, 7-3) plays at Des Moines Christian in a doubleheader Saturday at Urbandale.

Pekin finishes regular season with win at Louisa-Muscatine

LOUSIA — Tiana Slaney came up a triple short of the cycle, going 4-4 with a double and a home run as the Pekin softball team wrapped up the regular season with a 5-1 Southeast Iowa Superconference north victory at Louisa-Muscatine.

“We got off to a slow start, but the girls got things going as the game went along,” Pekin head softball coach Allison Glick said. “I’m really excited to see different people stepping up. We’ve had a different person each night it seems like stepping up for us. That’s going to be big for us going into the postseason.”
