PRESCOTT, Ariz. —
For the second straight game, Indian Hills spotted their opponent a big lead and then saw their attempt at a come-from-behind win fall short. The Falcons trailed host Yavapai College 9-3 after six innings and couldn’t get closer than the final margin, losing 9-6 on Wednesday in Precott, Ariz.
IHCC (1-5) got run-scoring hits from Taylor Ostrich and Adam Deneke in the seventh and Dario Polanco doubled and scored in the ninth to cut into Yavapai’s advantage, but the Falcons‘ last-inning rally was snuffed out as three straight batters were retired.
Deneke had three hits while Ostrich, Polanco and Junior Santos all had two as part of IHCC’s 12-hit attack.
IHCC left eight runners on base, six of them in scoring position.
Indian Hills used three pitchers with starter Alsis Herrera taking the loss. Joelfi Arias provided 2 1/3 innings of two-hit, shutout relief.
The Falcons were scheduled to take on Cochise College on Thursday afternoon in Phoenix. Indian Hills has two contests scheduled for today at Scottsdale, against Pro Train this morning and Chandler-Gilbert this afternoon.
