Mustang linksters win first varsity meet

KEOSAUQUA — The Davis County golf team  bested Van Buren and Clark County, Mo. Friday at Riverview Country Club in its first varsity meet.

The Mustangs, who finished with a round of 180, were shepherded by medalist Sam McClure, who shot 39. Davis County’s Levi Boas and Van Buren’s Noah Whitten tied for the runner-up slot, as both linksters finished with a round of 43. Kyle Birchmier shot a 47 and Drew Wetterich carded a 51 for the Mustangs.

“One hundred eighty is not what we’re looking for,” Davis County coach Jack Boatman said. “But we’ll take it starting out. We’ve got a lot more work to do, let’s put it that way.”

Davis County has a dual meet at Chariton Monday.
