Sigourney holds off Montezuma in playoff opener


The 21-5, Class 1A 13th-ranked Savages will travel to Lisbon for their match-up against Lisbon. Lisbon advanced with a 13-2 win over H-L-V.

Sabers end Moravia’s season again

BUSSEY – Down to their final few handful of outs of the season, Bluegrass co-champion Twin Cedars got contributions from all the players in the lineup on Wednesday to keep their season alive.

Shelby Hall delivered the biggest blow with a key two-run hit in a three-run sixth inning as the Sabers rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn a 4-3 Class 1A, Region 6 second-round win over Moravia, ending the softball season of their conference rival for the second-straight year.

Brittney Roby earned the win for the Sabers in the pitching circle, outdueling Moravia freshman Autumn McDanel with 12 strikeouts over seven innings.

Roby also had an RBI and was one of seven different batters to collect a hit for Twin Cedars.

Moravia finishes the season with a 13-14 record. Twin Cedars (24-8) will advance to a 1A, Region 6 semifinal contest at No. 7 Earlham tonight at 7 p.m.
