No. 2 Twin Cedars on to district finals; Sabers slam Moulton-Udell in four

MORAVIA —The 33-2, Class 1A second-ranked Twin Cedars baseball team scored in every inning on the way to the 15-0, four-inning win in District 10 semifinal baseball play Thursday night in Moravia. The Sabers won all three meetings between the two teams this season.

The win is part of another Saber winning streak.

“From the very first time it (our ranking) came up, we addressed it as a team. We have stressed confidence in ourselves and never talked about it again,” said Twin Cedars coach Matt Miller.

Twin Cedars opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Otis Roby got the Sabers started with a one-out double. Corey Harrell and Brent Parker had back to back doubles to score two runs and Drew Carlson singled in the third.

M-U threatened in the second. Zack Boettcher reached on an error to start the inning and when David Sheets followed with a single, the Eagles had runners at first and second with nobody out. The next three hitters went down in order to end the at bat.

Twin Cedars added four runs in the second to go up 7-0.

Collin Still opened with a base hit and then Levi Jones and Coy Moore turned two perfectly placed bunts into infield hits to load the bases.

Roby’s second hit drove in two and Hunter Embray picked up the first of his four RBI with a sacrifice fly. The fourth run scored on an Eagle error.

M-U had its final base runner in the top of the third, as Kalen Martsching drew a one-out walk. He would be thrown out stealing second and Moore recorded his third strikeout to end the inning.

With two outs in the third, the Sabers picked up three more on a three-run home run by Embray.
