Tigers hungry for regional success: Marshalltown gave Region XI three teams ranked in the NJCAA Division I men’s basketball poll heading into regional play. Ranked 25th, the Tigers dropped their regional opener in overtime to Northeast (Neb.) and haven’t won a region game yet. In fact, Marshalltown is looking to snap an 11-game regional losing streak (including two postseason losses) and pick up their first regional win since beating Iowa Western 85-77 back on Feb. 10, 2011.
Hitting their free throws: Indian Hills, a 60-percent free throw shooting team on the season, came up big at the line in their most recent win on Wednesday. The Warriors took the first round of this year’s “War on 34” over Southeastern, 82-70, thanks to a 25-31 (81 percent) effort from the foul line. IHCC outscored the Blackhawks 25-7 on free throws just three nights after struggling against Iowa Western, going 8-18 from the stripe last Saturday.
Coach Peery says: “We’re 3-0 in the region. We’ve done what we have to so far and we’ve got to be ready to get right back on the road.”
