FORT WORTH, Texas — The Indian Hills golf team shaved four strokes off its score and climbed the ladder from third to second place Tuesday at the final round of the UST Mamiya Intercollegiate at Hawks Creek Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Warriors dropped from a first-round 296 to a final-round 292 to post a team score of 588, three strokes better than third-place Texas Wesleyan Gold and 16 shots in back of Texas Wesleyan’s winning score of 572.

Host Texas Wesleyan is the top-ranked team in NAIA and broke 290 both days, carding 289 on Monday and 283 on Tuesday. Wesleyan’s Nathan Anderson was meet medalist, carding 69 and 70 for a two-round score of 139 on the par-72 course.

“This is a great start to our spring,” said IHCC coach Mike Hagen. “It was nice to see everybody contribute.”

IHCC’s Ben Ludlam was just one shot back, as he carded 140 to share runner-up honors with Michael Culin of TCU and Blake Vinson of Texas Wesleyan.

“I was really impressed with Ben’s play, for sure,” said Hagen. “He rolled the putter really well this week. He struggled a little off the tee, but that’s still a good score and he actually had a chance to win the thing today.”

IHCC’s Mitch Tucker finished tied for ninth with a score of 146, while Colin Pearson was 22nd with a 151, Connor Peck was 25th with a 152 and William White shot 154 for 32nd place.

Pearson shaved five strokes off his Monday score.

“All fall we struggled in the five spot, so to have Colin give us the kind of production we need out of that slot was a good thing,” Hagen said.

Playing as individuals, IHCC’s Luke Monson was 48th with a 162 while Kevin Workman was 54th with a 166.

The Warriors are back in action on March 24-25, when they head over to Illinois for the always-competitive John A. Logan Spring Invitational.
