Warriors split games with Southeastern

---- — WEST BURLINGTON – The Indian Hills softball team split a doubleheader with Southeastern Community College Wednesday.The Warriors defeated the Blackhawks 6-2 in game one, but they came up a little short in game two, falling to Southeastern 7-6.

Kendle Schieber’s grand slam home run propelled the Warriors to a victory in game one. Her home run blast fueled an IHCC five-run third inning that Southeastern never recovered from. Kaylyn Decock also had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Warriors.

Schieber picked up the win on the mound. She struck out nine batters, gave up eight hits and yielded two runs in seven innings. Both teams finished with eight hits.

MacKenzie Haight took the loss on the mound in the game two for the Warriors (18-26). She gave up two runs on two hits while striking out three in 2 2/3 innings.

Warrior Kaitlyn Matzen did her part to help IHCC’s cause offensively in the nightcap, as she blasted a home run and went 2-3 at the plate. Hiliary Pennington also had a pair of hits for the Warriors.

IHCC picked up a run in the top of the first and tacked on three more in the top of the second inning to take an early 4-0 lead. The Blackhawks cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third, and they ripped off six more runs in the bottom of the fourth.The Warriors out-hit their opponents 9-6.
