EBF remains red-hot; Osky suffers first loss

Miranda Davis had two hits for Chariton while sophomore pitcher Ellie Bengtson allowed just one earned run over seven innings in the circle.

The Chargers (4-8, 1-3) took on Centerville on the road Monday while No. 15 (2A) EBF was looking for their 12th-straight win at home against Albia in a pair of SCC matchups as the Courier went to press.

Centerville fell to 10-12 on the season, losing three games at Osky on Saturday to Bondurant-Farrar 5-0, Pella Chrstian 8-2 and fifth-ranked Carlisle 8-1. Rachel Valentine had three hits and three RBI for the Redettes in the tournament.

Oskaloosa, the ninth-ranked team in 4A, saw its season-opening 14-game winning streak end on Saturday at the tail end of their home tournament. After beating PCM 6-1 and Creston 2-0, the Indians suffered their first loss of the season to Bondurant-Farrar 4-1.

Aubrey Miller had a three-hit effort for the Indians in win over PCM, doubling twice while driving in two runs and scoring once, as part of a four-hit tournament effort. Kylie Silliman drove in both runs for Osky against Creston with a double while throwing a three-hit shutout.

No. 9 (4A) Oskaloosa took on Norwalk in Little Hawkeye Conference play Monday night at press time. The 11th-ranked Indians (14-1) head to Albia tonight for an area non-conference matchup while Chariton (4-8, 1-3) heads to Pella. Centerville will host Fairfield in a doubleheader this evening while No. 15 (2A) EBF (17-4, 4-1) is off until an SCC home game against Davis County on Thursday.
