Ottumwa six-game win streak snapped by Marshalltown

(Continued)

Game two saw the Bulldogs and Marshalltown hook up in another one run game. Marshalltown gained a split by downing the Bulldogs 8-7 in nine innings. The stats showed the game to be as even as you’d expect. Each team had 12 hits and each team only had one error. One errors a solid defensive performance but when the error happens, can make all the difference. An Ottumwa throwing error allowed the go ahead run to score.

Both teams put runs on the board in the first. After the Bobcats scored one, the Bulldogs answered with a three spot. A walk and three consecutive hits plated the runs. Spencer Fuller and Blake Mooney had back to back doubles followed by a Mitch Stuchel RBI hit.

The Bobcats scored two more in the second, but the Bulldogs matched that as the top of the order started to really take charge. Colin Schultz had an RBI triple followed by Kyle Keck’s RBI double. It was the first hit for each one of them on the night.

Marshalltown added a run in the third to pull within 5-4. Ottumwa went up 7-4 in the fourth. Cody Miller and Schultz both tripled and Keck singled two account for the runs. The Bulldogs were done scoring for the night. The Bobcats tied it with two in the seventh. The winning run scored with one out in the top of the ninth. The final Ottumwa at bat ended with a possible tying run thrown out at third.
