OTTUMWA — The regional pairings for Iowa High School softball are decorated with brackets that are occupied by multiple teams from the southeast Iowa region.
In the Class 4A, region 6, both Oskaloosa and Fairfield will be competing. The Indians, who will receive a first-round bye, will take on the winner of a game between Fairfield and Mount Pleasant in the quarterfinals July 13 in their hometown. The first round game between the Trojans and Panthers will occur June 11 at Fairfield.
Meanwhile, Class 3A, region 6 is filled to the brim with southeast Iowa squads. Two of those teams, Albia and Centerville, two South Central Conference teams, will face each other in the first round of the tourney July 9 in Centerville. The winner of that contest will face the winner of a game between Chariton and and South Central Conferen foe Clarke — which also will be played on July 9, Tuesday in Osceola. On the bottom side of the bracket, Davis County will take on West Burlington Notre Dame July 9 at West Burlington.
In Class 2A, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, who will receive a bye in the first round, will face the winner of a game between Pella Christian and North Mahaska in the quarterfinals July 10. The game between the Warhawks and Pella Christian will take place the day before in New Sharon. On the bottom side of the bracket, Pekin will take on the winner of a game between Iowa Valley and West Branch July 10 in the quarterfinals. Also, Van Buren will take on Cardinal in the first round of the tourney on July 9 in Eldon. The winner of this game will face Highland the next day in Riverside.
Sigourney, who will receive a bye in the first round, will play host to the winner of a game between BGM and Montezuma in the quarterfinals on July 10 in the Class 1A, region 5 tourney. Meanwhile, in the bottom side of the bracket, Tri-County will play host to Lone Tree July 8. If Tri-County wins, it will play Iowa Mennnonite at Kalona July 10 in the quarterfinals.
In the Class 1A, region 6 tournament, Moulton-Udell will face Harmony July 8 at Moulton. If the Eagles win, they will travel to New London July 10. In the bottom half of the bracket, Twin Cedars, who will receive a bye in the first round, will face the winner of a contest between Moravia and Melcher-Dallas in the quarterfinals at Bussey July 10. The game between the Mohawks and Melcher Dallas will occur July 8 at Melcher.
