---- — ELDON — The Cardinal baseball team did just enough to knock off West Burlington Friday, as it used a four-run sixth inning to notch an 8-7 win over the Falcons in a Southeast Iowa Superconference south game.

Adam Giltner, in the first varsity game of his career, capped off the Comets’ big sixth inning with a huge two-run single with two outs and the bases loaded. It wasn’t the only time Giltner had produced for Cardinal offensively in the game. In the bottom of the fifth, he drove in Chase Courtney with a base hit.

Conner McElderry, who was a perfect 3-3 at the plate, also gave the Cardinal’s offense a big boost when he blasted a three-run homer — his fourth of the season — in the bottom of the third. In addition, Dakota Showman went 3-4 and Conner Streeby drove in two runs.

McElderry threw the first five innings of the game before he was relieved by Showman, who worked the final two innings and picked up the victory.
