Centerville boys take first in Davis County Invitational

BLOOMFIELD — The Centerville boys golf team used two fantastic performances by Alex Moorman and Blake Dabney to take first at the Davis County Invitational with 301 points.

Moorman's august outing was good enough to land him atop the leaderboard. He fired a one-under par 69 and Blake Dabney posted the second lowest-score of the invite with a 71.

In addition, Jake Hargrave turned a laudable performance, shooting a two-round score of 79 strikes and Brett Kauzlarich finished with an 82, which him firing a season-best round of 38.

"I think we had a pretty solid leadership from from Alex and Blake," Big Reds Coach Mike Carney said. "Jake Hargrave played consistent throughout and Brett Kauzlarich shot his season-low round of the year."

Albia took second in the invite with a 319. Drew Schofield was at the vanguard of the Blue Demons' success, finishing with 75 strokes. But, what was perhaps even more impressive than his golf skills was a moment that distilled the essence of the Blue Demon golfer's character.

"He called a two-stroke penalty on himself for not moving his ball mark back to the original spot," Albia coach Marty Hermsen said. "He still shot a good score. He's been playing well lately."

Coming in second for Albia was Tyler Maddison, who shot a personal-best score of 78 strokes.

"Tyler Maddison has been playing really well for us lately," Hermsen said.

In addition, Griffin Osing fired an 80 and Joey Sinnott shot an 86.

Host Davis County finished with a collective score of 374 and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont finished seventh with 458.
