Budan leads Ottumwa girls to Osky Invite title

OSKALOOSA — Despite having a skeleton crew of four players, the Ottumwa girls golf team overcame the odds and took first at the Oskaloosa Invitational Thursday with a team score of 366.

While all the Bulldog linksters performed admirably, Abbie Budan’s star shined the brightest: The senior Bulldog fired the top score of 84 strokes.

“Abbie is just playing really well right now,” Ottumwa girls coach Steph Mishler said. “Her game has really taken shape right now in middle of the season. It’s nice to see her have some of the best rounds she’s ever had during her senior season.”

Ottumwa sophomore Bailey Palmer complemented her teammate’s efforts by claiming runner-up honors with 93 strokes. Callie Lawson followed closely behind Palmer with a 94 and Hannah Lien shot a 95.

“The four that played put together good rounds and managed the golf course well,” Mishler said.

Meanwhile, Cassie Crall spearheaded the Lady Dees with a score of 95 strokes and Maria Maddy came in close behind her with a 96. In addition, Albia’s Lexie Van Pollen shot a 97, Niki Angron posted a 109 and Sydney DeBruin finished with a 118.

Ottumwa competes Monday at the Ames Invitational.
