---- — WEST DES MOINES — The Ottumwa boys soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to eighth-ranked (Class 3A) soccer powerhouse West Des Moines Valley Thursday.
The game remained knotted at zero for the breadth of the first half, but the Tigers’ Christopher Forrest managed to find the net off a free kick with a two minutes and 30 seconds left in the half to put his team up 1-0.
Valley continued to grow its lead in the second half, while the Bulldogs failed to answer with an effective response.
“There is a reason why Valley is ranked eighth in the state,” Ottumwa coach Aaron Rose said. “Our first 40 minutes were pretty solid . With about 20 minutes left in the second half, we got exhausted.”
In addition, Rose said Valley was able to capitalize on his team’s mistakes. Still, Ottumwa’s coach made sure to direct praise at his goalie Arny Perez for his performance.
“Arny Perez had a phenomenal game,” Rose said. “He made three or four big-time plays in the first or second half. If it weren’t for Arny that score could have been much worse.”
