Van Buren golfers take second at home invitational

KEOSAUQUA — The one-two punch of West Burlington-Notre Dame teammates Kenny Reach and Reese Garnjobst proved to be too much for the rest of the field at the Van Buren boys golf Invitational on Saturday. Reach beat out Garnjobst and Fairfield Maharishi’s Mickey DeAngelis by a stroke to earn meet medalist honors while leading the Falcons to the team title by 17 shots over the hosting Warriors.

Austin Bartholomew led Van Buren, finishing sixth individually with a round of 88. Brandon Plecker’s 90, Robby Laughlin’s 92 and Noah Whitten’s 94 helped the Warriors beat out Davis County for second place by 11 shots with a round of 364.

Logan Faler and Chris Davidson shared fourth place on the individual leaderboard as the Davis County teammates each fired rounds of 84. Jack Boatman’s Mustangs finished with a 375 on the day.

The Mustangs are back in action today with a quadrangular at Moravia starting at 4 p.m. Van Buren will meet up with MSAE again on Thursday at the Southeast Iowa Superconference Meet in Winfield.
