Bulldog boys soccer shut out in Metro opener

DES MOINES — Thanks to a 12-2 edge in shots, Des Moines Hoover took down the Ottumwa boys soccer team in the Bulldogs first CIML Metro Conference match of the season. Hau Tombling scored twice and Sanel Tzinic added a goal in the 27th minute as the Huskies beat OHS, 3-0, on Monday.

“We changed our personnel around a little bit. We didn’t have some of our key players in the lineup and I think it hurt us in terms of our chemistry,” said Ottumwa head boys soccer coach Aaron Rose. “Hoover really defended well, though. They played a phenomenal game. They kept us on our toes all match long.

“In the end, 12 shots is hard to contain. Sooner or later, the ball is going to roll into the back of the net.”

Papay Kruah had the only two shots of the night for Ottumwa, both of which were stopped by Hoover goalie Ago Zilic. Arny Perez came up with six saves in goal for the Bulldogs (2-7-2, 0-1), which will head to Keokuk tonight before hopefully playing at home for the first time this season on Thursday against Indianola.

“It’s hard to play on the road,” Rose said. “Hopefully we’ll get home and get to hear our home fans cheer for us.”
