Lady Dees lock down SCC win over Davis County

ALBIA – The Albia Lady Dees kept a five-game winning streak going on Thursday with a win over Davis County in South Central Conference action. Albia scored a 7-1 win over the Mustangs in a game that was far different from the non-conference battle with Moravia one night earlier

On Wednesday, Albia battled back after allowing five runs in the first inning to beat the Mohawks, 12-7, in a non-conference area slugfest. The Lady Dees used a five-run inning of their own in the bottom of the fifth to snap a 7-7 tie.

Makenzie Griffin provided a big blow with a home run, highlighting a 2-3 night at the plate that included a team-best four RBI. Sydney Weldon set the tone at the top of the lineup, joining Emma Dinneen in going 3-4 at the plate with a double and four runs scored for the senior lead-off hitter.

Albia (6-1, 1-1) is back in action in the Oskaloosa Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Dees will face Newton, South Hardin and Pella.

Davis County (2-6, 0-1) hosts Pekin in a doubleheader tonight starting at 5 p.m. Moravia (1-3) heads to Grandview Park Baptist for a Bluegrass Conference doubleheader today.
