AREA GIRLS BASKETBALL ACTION: Moravia unbeaten headed into break

OTTUMWA — CENTERVILLE — The Moravia girls basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season with a big non-conference road win on Tuesday. The Mohawks held off a late Centerville charge for a 59-55 victory.

Katelynn Tracy led all scorers with 19 points for Moravia, and Tracy also pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Moravia built a double-digit lead early, and led by 15 points heading into the fourth quarter. Centerville turned up the pressure and made a 21-10 run, but the Redettes ran out of time and the Mohawks held on.

Kendall Brown scored 10 points for Moravia while Hannah Eastlick added 10. Brown and Autumn McDanel dished six assists each, while Eastlick came up with four of Moravia’s 10 steals.

Centerville dropped to 2-8 overall with the loss, and the Redettes will host Clarke of Osceola on Thursday in a South Central Conference contest. Kiley Micetich led Centerville with 16 points while Alyssa Barger scored 11 and Shelby Royer added 10.

Moravia is now off for the Christmas holiday break. The Mohawks will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 3, when Moravia travels to Eldon for a non-conference tilt with Cardinal.

Comets get big OT win at Holy Trinity

FORT MADISON — Danae Moses drilled five 3-pointers — none as important as the one she hit to tie the game at the end of regulation — as the Cardinal girls basketball team took a 55-50 overtime road win over Holy Trinity in Southeast Iowa SuperConference action on Tuesday.

Moses finished with 17 points in the contest, while Lindsay Moore and Delaney Ridgeway added 15 points each. Ridgeway also grabbed seven rebounds while Moore came up with nine steals.

Down 43-40 with time running out, Moses hit her fifth 3-pointer to tie the game at 43-43 and force the extra stanza.

The Comets iced the game from the free throw line in overtime — Cardinal was 19-of 27 from the charity stripe in the contest.

Cardinal (5-5, 5-4) is scheduled to play at Danville on Friday.
