AREA GIRLS BASKETBALL ACTION: Moravia unbeaten headed into break

OTTUMWA — CENTERVILLE — The Moravia girls basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season with a big non-conference road win on Tuesday. The Mohawks held off a late Centerville charge for a 59-55 victory.

Katelynn Tracy led all scorers with 19 points for Moravia, and Tracy also pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Moravia built a double-digit lead early, and led by 15 points heading into the fourth quarter. Centerville turned up the pressure and made a 21-10 run, but the Redettes ran out of time and the Mohawks held on.

Kendall Brown scored 10 points for Moravia while Hannah Eastlick added 10. Brown and Autumn McDanel dished six assists each, while Eastlick came up with four of Moravia’s 10 steals.

Centerville dropped to 2-8 overall with the loss, and the Redettes will host Clarke of Osceola on Thursday in a South Central Conference contest. Kiley Micetich led Centerville with 16 points while Alyssa Barger scored 11 and Shelby Royer added 10.

Moravia is now off for the Christmas holiday break. The Mohawks will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 3, when Moravia travels to Eldon for a non-conference tilt with Cardinal.
