The Fairfield Maharishi boys tennis team dominated Burlington Notre Dame 9-0 in its season opening meet Tuesday.
The Pioneers didn’t yield a set to the Nikes in seven of their nine victories. Raffi Gelfand, Solaris Nite, Chandre Morales, Avery Mulleneux and Surya Sawhney all shut out their opponents in singles competition and two of the three Pioneer doubles teams also didn’t lose a single game to their opposition.
“Burlington’s No. 1 player, Kai Senaha, from Japan, tested Sam Stickels, but Stickels weathered the onslaught and ran off the final nine games of the match,” Steve Briggs, who replaced Lawrence Eyre, who retired after coaching the elite program for 25 years; said.
