The Indian Hills golf team finished in fourth place overall after the final round of the NJCAA Division I Preview Tournament in Lubbock, Texas.
The Warriors carded 302 as a team in Tuesday’s third and final round on the par-72 Rawls Golf Course. IHCC’s final team score was 893, six shots behind third-place Dodge City and six shots ahead of fifth-place Western Texas.
Warrior coach Mike Hagen said his team’s play just wasn’t consistent enough.
“We would dig ourselves a little hole,” the coach said, “and then we would fight back and get going, and then we would drop a couple of shots. It was just a crazy couple of days for us.”
Odessa won the tournament, leading from start to finish and posting a final team score of 870, while McLennan was just one shot back at 871. McLennan was seven shots back after two rounds.
IHCC’s William White finished tied for 10th place with a score of 219, nine shots behind individual medalist Micah Rodgers of Odessa, who shot 210. McLennan’s Andrew Hans was second, two shots behind Rodgers.
IHCC’s Colin Pearson, playing as an individual, finished 12th overall with a score of 220. Connor Peck was 18th with a 223, Ben Ludlam carded 228 to place 28th, Mitch Tucker carded 229 to place 33rd and Kevin Workman shot 230 to place 39th.
Hagen said the one positive his team could take from an otherwise disappointing performance is that despite not playing up to their capabilities, the Warrior linksters still had a chance to take first going into the final round of the tournament.
“We’re going to work hard and be ready in May,” Hagen said.
