American Legion takes two more from Carroll

OTTUMWA – The Ottumwa American Legion Baseball team swept Carroll Sunday, rallying from an early deficit to win 5-3 in game one and riding the crest of a Kyle Keck no-hitter to a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.

Chase Wood (1-0) got the win on the mound in the first game. Wood, who replaced starting pitcher Aaron Roane in middle of the third inning, whiffed seven hitters while only allowing two hits in 3 1/3 innings.

“The pitchers did a good job pitching,” Ottumwa coach John Hart said. “We’re doing a good of capitalizing on the errors [by Carroll].”

Offensively, Ottumwa was catalyzed by Kyle Keck and Mitch Stutchell, who combined for four hits. In addition, Tyler Johns tripled and Keck and Bryce Ward both finished with an RBI. Ottumwa fell behind 3-0 before its offense got rolling in the bottom of the third.

Keck (2-1) struck out seven while shepherding Ottumwa to a six-run victory in game two. The Legion offense was buoyed by Trent Stutchel, who went 3-4; and Drake Graber, who went 2-3. Ottumwa scored six of its seven runs in its final three innings at bat.

Ottumwa (6-4) plays Eddyville Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Legion.
