Regular race season winding down

Hello race fans and welcome to The Pit Stop.

The regular race season is winding down for 2013 with a couple of the tracks in the area having their season championships this week. The Bloomfield Speedway has its season championships this Saturday night with the night of racing being sponsored by Davis Seed and Making Memories Flowers and Gifts.

Dustin Griffiths of Ottumwa will put his winning streak on the line where he has won five consecutive races at Bloomfield in the Hobby Stock division. Ryan Fullenkamp of Bloomfield had three wins in a row at Bloomfield in the Sport Modifieds and was shooting for his fourth win in a row but that winning streak was snapped this past Friday night when Carter Vandenburg of Oskaloosa made the trip to victory lane.

Even though Saturday night is Bloomfield’s last point’s race, they do have more race dates on tap before they put the checkered flag on the 2013 campaign. The Knoxville Raceway has their season championships scheduled for this Saturday night where the night of racing is being sponsored by Walmart.

The 305 Sprinters will be on the card of racing along with the 410 and 360 divisions. In the 410’s, Bronson Maeschen of Pleasantville has a slim 59 point lead over Ian Madsen of Australia. And just seven points behind Madsen is Terry McCarl of Altoona. Clint Garner of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has a pretty commanding lead in the 360 division and appears to be on his way to another track championship in that group. Larry Ball Jr. of Knoxville leads the 305 division in points.

Knoxville also has several race dates scheduled after this weekend before they finish up for the year. The Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa is back in action tomorrow night with it being Support American Farmers Night and the IMCA Late Models will be back in action along with the regular weekly divisions. They will take a few Wednesdays off after tomorrow night and they will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
