---- — OTTUMWA — Collin Schulz and Seth Griffiths added to their already impressive number of postseason honors for their play for the Bulldogs this summer by being named to the Iowa Newspaper Association's all-state team.
Schulz was selected second team all state, while Griffiths garnered third-team all state honors. Schulz had an stupendous season on the baseball diamond. The prodigies he performed on the field included leading the team with an an awe-inspiring .527 batting average, belting 69 hits, driving in 41 runs, slamming 18 doubles and blasting eight triples. Schulz' play in the field was filled to the brim with web gem-worthy catches and strong throws to first from the shortstop position.
Griffiths slammed a team-leading three home runs, batted a laudable .436 at the plate, scored a team-high 49 runs, belted 58 hits, trailing only Schulz; and ranked third on the team in doubles with nine and triples with five. Schulz also used his speed to run down a number of fly balls in the outfield that would have been beyond the reach of most outfielders.
For the two players, who have started on the Bulldogs since they were sophomores, this latest postseason honor follows a number of other accolades including being named to the all-conference and all-district teams. Coincidentally, Schulz and Griffiths will both head to Oskaloosa to play for the William Penn University baseball team next season.
