Cardinal falls to top-ranked opponent in opener

FORT MADISON — The Cardinal volleyball team fell to top-ranked Holy Trinity Catholic (Class 1A) in three sets (25-12, 25-10, 25-8) in its season opener Thursday in SEISC South action.

Even though the Comets fell to their formidable opponents, coach Gerald Harter was pleased with his team’s performance.

“I thought we played very well,” Gerald Harter said. “I thought we did a nice job of keeping our intensity. We played with aggressiveness. I thought we showed a lot of heart and pride.”

The Crusader’s hyper-talented team is led by junior Mikaela Foecke, who has verbally agreed to play volleyball at the University of Nebraska.

For Cardinal, Dakota Durflinger led the team with five kills and two blocks. In addittion, Amy Hart made 5-6 serves and Katey Liles, Leea Ostrander and Amy Hart each had four digs.
