EDDYVILLE — Not much has stopped the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont volleyball team on the road at the start of this season. On Monday, Twin Cedars couldn't do much to keep EBF from moving on to 10-0 with its first win on its home floor.
Tasha Alexander and Karlie Taylor each drilled 13 kills to lead the dominant attack of the Rockets, who swept the visiting Sabers 25-10, 25-5, 25-19 in EBF's home opener. Taylor added a team-best four aces while Alexander was the top attacker for the Rockets, going 18-20 hitting.
"The girls played well," EBF head volleyball coach Gladys Genskow said. "We ran a quicker offense, which we can credit our passing in making that possible. We were able to work on the offense without the usual game pressures."
"Serving was strong as well. We lost the focus a bit in game three, but closed out the night with a three-game sweep."
EBF (10-0) was scheduled to finally opened South Central Conference action Tuesday at Centerville, but the match was postponed due to safety concerns with the extremely hot temperatures that might cause even warmer, unsafe conditions inside Lakeview Gymnasium. The sixth-ranked (2A) Rockets will next head to the Southeast Polk Invitational on Saturday.
Twin Cedars (0-2) opens Bluegrass Conference play at Moulton-Udell on Thursday.
