---- — OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa boys and girls cross-country meet scheduled for Tuesday in Grinnell has been postponed. As has been the case with several of the early-season meets this season, excessive temperatures forced the meet to be called off due to the safety of the runners.
The meet has been rescheduled for Thursday, but Ottumwa will not be able participate. The Bulldogs are scheduled to run instead in Fairfield’s meet at Waterworks Park at 5 p.m. Ottumwa will be running in just its second meet of the season with the Bulldog boys looking for its first official results of the season after having to forfeit last week’s second-place finish at the Wildwood Invitational on Monday due to the participation of an ineligible student athlete.
Speaking of the Fairfield cross-country team, the Trojans run at the Van Buren Invitational was pushed back to 6 p.m. as officials tried to get the meet in while avoiding dangerous temperatures to compete in. The Lake Keomah Invitational just outside Oskaloosa, which was hosted by Pekin and featured several area teams, was also pushed back to 6 p.m.
The sixth-ranked (2A) Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont volleyball team’s scheduled South Central Conference volleyball match at Centerville was also postponed on Tuesday due to concerns of humidity inside the gymnasium affecting both athletes and spectators.
