No. 2 Twin Cedars on to district finals

Sabers slam Moulton-Udell in four

“It was a curve ball and I picked it up early,” said Embray. “It’s easier to hit when we’re all hitting.”

The inning might have been bigger if not for an outstanding play by Martsching at short. He went deep in the hole to field a ball that bad-hopped the third baseman and his strong throw nipped the Saber at first.

“There are certain things that happen that you just can’t prepare for,” said M-U coach Brent Martsching. “Hitting is contagious and when they hit like they are, it makes them really tough.”

In the top of the fourth, Roby nearly equaled Martsching’s play at short. A bad-hop ground ball, headed for left field, was picked out of the air by the slick fielding shortstop to get a runner at first.

“I just try and stay down and keep my hands loose and hopefully react to make a play,” added Roby.

The Sabers ended the game with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. The inning featured the last of the nine Sabers to get a hit, a two-RBI triple by Still and Roby's third hit for an RBI.

Roby, who had a line drive hit to all fields, talked about his game at the plate.

“Coach stresses to keep the ball out of the air. I just try and find the top half of the ball.”

Harrell also had an RBI in the inning and the final run scored on a balk.

According to Miller, the high flying Sabers will be back to work Friday.

“At this time of the season, we will look to keep our guys fresh. We’ll still run the bases and do live fielding work, just not for as long.”

The Sabers will get a chance to avenge their last loss when they travel to Pleasantville Saturday night to take on Pleasantville in the district championship.
