MORAVIA — The Davis County boys golf team narrowly won a triangular against Moravia and Melcher-Dallas Tuesday, besting the Mohawks by just four strokes with a collective score of 187 at the Preserve in Moravia.
The Mustangs’ round was bolstered by Kyle Birchmier, who medaled with a round of 42. Moravia’s Levi Hawk finished two strokes behind Birchmier with a 44, which landed him in the runner-up spot.
Following the top two finishers were Davis County’s Levi Boas and Mohawk Lane Brewer, who both finished with a round of 45 strokes. In addition, Mustang Sam McClure and Moravia’s Jon Eastlick both shot a 47.
Rounding out things for the Mustangs were Solomon Miller and McKane Wells, who both finished with a 53 and James Veatch, who carded a 55. The Mohawks Ryan Cochran also shot a 55.
Melcher-Dallas took third in the triangular with 19 points.
While he was happy with Birchmier’s round, despite the victory, Mustang coach Jack Boatman wasn’t pleased with his team’s performance.
“The scores were a little higher than I’d like to have,” Boatman said.
Davis County will be in action again Thursday at a tournament in Centerville.
